I have 30 years of experience as a newspaper reporter, science writer, and communications leader. I've worked for government and nonprofit organizations and entrepreneurs, executives, and political candidates. 

I tell stories not only to inform and inspire, but to move people to action.

That takes trust and connection - the cornerstones of fundraising. I've raised every kind of dollar: government and foundation grants, corporate gifts and contracts, and individual and major gifts.

Personal Branding

Delivered "Telling Not Selling," a webinar on authentic personal branding for students at Harvard Extension School

Pitching Providence

Created a keynote economic development presentation for the City of Providence to pitch 19 acres of prime, downtown property to national developers


Developed partnerships with IBM, Google, and Microsoft for a successful $15.5M National Science Foundation grant that built the ICERM math institute at Brown University

University Program Launch

Created a full communications package, including a website landing page, to successfully launch a physician assistant graduate training program for Bryant University

Identity Overhaul

Reimagined internal and external communications for a cancer clinical trials network based at Oregon Health & Science University, including creating a value proposition and brand, redesigning and rewriting the website, and creating media relations and social media programs. Built a plain language program and expanded the patient advocate team.

Government Branding

Led a team that helped brand Oregon's fourth largest city, redesigned the city's newsletter, boosted social media engagement, created marketing materials for a major urban renewal project and launched initiatives like a city services app
